SBYC ANNUAL FISHING CONTEST


This season long contest recognizes anglers who, over the course of the season, catch the largest IGFA recognized fish.
  • SBYC Angling Rules Apply

  • Contest dates for the fishing season are May 1 thru November 30.

  • Prizes will be awarded for the largest fish, by weight, for IGFA recognized species.

JERSEY BLUES TOURNAMENT


Initiated in 1964 by Past Commodore Walter Pyle.
  • SBYC Angling Rules Apply

  • Open to all club members.

  • Fish must be recorded on the Bluefish Monthly Register located at the SBYC Fishing Bulletin Board.

  • The contest will run from May 1 thru November 30.

  • Awards will be presented for the largest Bluefish caught during each month of the tournament.

FLUKE AND FLOUNDER TOURNAMENT


Initiated in 1983, this season long tournament has become a favorite among SBYC Anglers.
  • SBYC Angling Rules Apply

  • Open to all club members.

  • Fish must be recorded on the Fluke/Flounder Monthly Register located at the SBYC Fishing Bulletin Board.

  • The contest will run from May 1 thru November 30.

  • Awards will be presented for the largest Flounder caught during each month of the tournament.

WEAKFISH TOURNAMENT


Initiated in 2001 by the fishing committee, Linda and Scott Janiszewski.
  • SBYC Angling Rules Apply

  • Open to all club members.

  • Fish must be recorded on the Weakfish Monthly Register located at the SBYC Fishing Bulletin Board.

  • The contest will run from May 1 thru November 30.

  • Awards will be presented for the largest Weakfish caught during each month of the tournament.

STRIPED BASS TOURNAMENT


Initiated in 2004 by the fishing committee, Scott and PC Mark Janiszewski.

  • Open to all club members.

  • Fish must be recorded on the Striped Bass Monthly Register located at the SBYC Fishing Bulletin Board.

  • The contest will run from May 1 thru November 30.

  • Awards will be presented for the largest Striped Bass caught during each month of the tournament.

FALL STRIPED BASS TOURNAMENT


Initiated in 1996 by Mark and Scott Janiszewski. there is an Awards Ceremony and Covered Dish Dinner held on the last Saturday in November.

  • All club members in good standing are eligible to compete.

  • The contest will run from September 1, thru the last Saturday in November.

  • Fish must be recorded on the Striped Bass Register located at the SBYC Fishing Bulletin Board.

  • Anglers may register fish caught from the surf or from a club member's boat.

  • Prizes will be awarded for the three largest Striped Bass registered during the tournament. One prize per angler.

  • A "Release Category" Award will be presented to the angler who releases the most legal size Striped Bass during the tournament.

JUNIOR ANGLERS TOURNAMENT


The purpose of this event is to introduce young members to recreational fishing as a hobby. Only those 18 years of age and under are eligible for prizes. Anglers may be a Junior Member, a family member or a friend of a SBYC member. An awards luncheon will commence immediately after the 1230 hrs. weigh-in deadline.

SBYC "OPEN" TOURNAMENT


This is a very informal tournament with few rules. The concept is simple...go fishing with your family and friends and kickoff the fishing season! Typically held in June with a Grill and Say Hi that evening.

  • No prior registration required.

  • Boats may not leave the dock prior to 0500 and must weigh in at SBYC by 1500. Surf fishing is permitted.

  • All types of chumming is permitted.

  • Anglers may weigh in fish in multiple categories, however only one prize will be awarded per angler. Multiple anglers on the same boat are eligible to weigh in fish and receive prizes.

  • Prizes will be awarded in three divisions - Men, Women, and Juniors.

  • In addition to the individual prizes, one boat prize will be awarded to the boat whose anglers capture the most prize categories.

  • Weigh in your own fish. The scale and weigh-in log will be located in the wharf area. You need only to weigh in your largest fish in each category for every angler on your boat.

  • Fish categories include: Flounder, Weakfish, Striped Bass, Bluefish, Tuna, Sea Bass, Tautog, and an Open Category.

SBYC FISHING TOURNAMENT


This is a one-day tournament.
  • SBYC Angling Rules Apply

  • All Boats and Anglers must register at the Captains Meeting the night prior to the tournament.

  • Boats may not leave the dock prior to 0530 and must weigh in at SBYC by 1500.

  • Fish must be recognized IGFA species, sharks, except Makos, are not eligible.

  • Only six (6) fish per boat will be eligible for weigh-in.

  • Prizes are limited to one prize per boat.
Ocean/Surf and Bay Tournament Categories:
  • Biggest Fish (1st - 3rd Place)

  • Most Weight (1st - 3rd Place)

COUPLES FISHING TOURNAMENT


This is "Ladies Day." Only the ladies are eligible for prizes. There will be two categories, Ocean/Surf and Bay. Boats must declare their category at registration during the Captains Meeting.

  • All Boats and Anglers must register at the Captains Meeting the night prior to the tournament.

  • Guest of members are eligible to compete, as long as they fish with a member couple from the member's boat.

  • Boats may not leave the dock prior to 0530 and must weigh in at SBYC by 1500.

  • If more than one couple is fishing from the same boat they must keep their fish separate.

  • Fish must be recognized IGFA species, sharks, except Makos, are not eligible.

  • The Bay Category will include all Bay waters out to - Buoy in Little Egg Inlet.

  • The Ocean Category will be defined as fishing beyond - Buoy in Little Egg Inlet.

  • Anglers on a boat are eligible only for the prizes in the category that their boat registered.

  • There will be only one prize per couple. More than one prize may be awarded per boat.

  • Only six (6) fish per couple will be eligible for weigh-in.

  • Most Weight (1st - 2nd Place)
